As a Ford guy I never really desired a Corvette or most any Chevrolet for that matter but, I've apparently have entered my mid-life crisis or second childhood a bit late....I'm 59 years old for heavens sake.

I've purchased a 1990 Corvette standard coupe with two roofs, one glass, all the electonic wizardry including Bose stereo, dual power leather sport seats, FX3 suspension and a few other gizmos that I'll have to look up in the owners manual.

Test drove it last evening.  On a rough road ore wagons ride as well.  One a smooth road it rides like a Caddy.

Even at my age I can get my still substantial mass over the high sills and in to the seat.  I haven't counted yet but an estimation is over 30 buttons and switches that all seem to work.  Nobody would want for any more instrumentation.  Of course the requesite gas gage and speedo but also has temp, tranny temp, oil temp, oil pressure, ampmeter and a couple of others I didn't catch last evening.

Old school Bose stereo that includes not only a cassette tape player but also a CD player.

After 22 years there is zero fad on the interior at all.  Must have been garaged since new.  The chassis looks like it has never been driven on a wet road.  Lots of very clean aluminum suspension bits.  Obviously a couple of hours spent in the owners manual will make me understand.

I pick it up tomorrow.  Oh and it makes those soothing great sounds from the exhaust.

:)

Steve,

Ah, to be 59 again?

Congrats!!!! Quite a change from your other rides, I must say. I am sure you will enjoy her. Luckily, you are not a techno illiterate, so all that electrical gadgetry should be able to be figured out by you. Have you put the pedal-to-the-metal yet?

Sweet! Have fun!

Yup, pedal to the mat and it accelerates quite close to the advertised 0-60 in 6.2.  No traction control so the first mistake was getting it sideways real quick.  I've never owned a car with the posi rear end before.

I won't be mis-behavin' much as 1. it's not my style and 2. tires are $400+ each. Ha ha.

Couple of repairs needed.

The Bose amps for the rear speakers are out.  Send the head out and for $125 it can be redone.

Antenna doesn't go up and down but the motor runs.  Now I've already had it out, cleaned, inspected and relubed and bench tested great twice.  Reinstalled it and it went up and that was that.  It's a bugger to get out by the way.

The light bulb on the console for the PRNDL is out.

That's pretty much it.  $5500 was a steal in the condition that it's in.  I'm very happy.  Being all original with very glossy finish and very low wear on the leather interior it's relegated to the garage during the day.  I'll have to preserve it as it's in that good of condition.

I've had my childish driving experience and it will be a "grand tourer" for me.  It's going to a show on 2 June.

Oh the a/c doesn't blow cold.  I've already confirmed the compressor is good but it's R12.  I'm not worried as the top is off for the summer. :) I always wanted a convertable and this is as close as I'll get I think.

Steve.

Interesting about the antenna? Perhaps it has a mind of its own? I am sure the a/c can be converted. You will get to that when you cannot take the heat anymore. Yes I wold say the price was more than right! Hard to beat open air driving, let me tell you.

Speaking of shows, this weekend prepping for the Indy event. Then there is the local Cadillac Club show here on the 19th. We are also booked to be at the Country Cruize-In in London, ONT Canada. Whether we shall go as spectators or participants has yet to be determined; and if as participants we need to decide which car we shall take. I want to take the '55 Coupe de Ville, but have not driven it much, let alone on a 1,000 mile round-trip drive.

Here is a link to the Country Cruize-In web site -

It is probably the largest classic car show in Canada.  The guy who puts it on holds it on the grounds of his estate.  He owns a mere 31 Cadillacs!  By all accounts he is "down-to-earth" guy; a Canadian Jay Leno?

Things have improved greatly in the last 58 days. It took me 5 minutes to repair the antenna once I know what to do. I took the bezel off the antenna, turned the radio on and pulled the whole thing out. The PO gave me a new mast and plastic gear thing. Held the plastic gear in the whole, turned off the radio and the motor drew it all back in and I reinstalled the bezel.

I've gone to two car shows. 28mpg highway. I'm getting 20mpg in town. Can't beat that with a stick. I don't like it sitting outside all day so I drive it weekends and evenings right now. It's quite pleasant here in the mornings and evenings. Maybe next year I'll pay to convert the a/c to 134a.

One other itsy bitsy problem. You can't get wiper refills here anymore. You have to buy the whole blade. I want to retain the original metal blades so it has to be an online buy. I hate shopping online.

28 mpg in a Vette? Can't beat that with a stick!

Good work on the antenna. Figuring out what to do is often the hardest part, isn't it?

Hear you about the wipers. And when you do get them, you will most likely find they are made in China or some other Asian land.
