No, the license plate is fine. While I am not 110% certain, in '56 the plate may have been mountable on the end of the bumper, or in the center. At any rate, that is not the problem.

Wonderful. You know why it was so hard? I searched the www and found many in various states of restoration. I think there may be few that are totally correct. The picture you posted was not the only one with the script on the wrong side. I even checked color chips. Ha Ha.
The "What's wrong" pic that I posted was received by me as 1 of 145 pictures included in an auto inspection report I paid for with respect to a car I was considering purchasing. When I saw the pic the questions that came to mind were:
1. When did the script get moved?
2. Why did the script get moved?
3. What necessitated the moving of the script in the first place?
4. If whoever screwed this up, what else did they screw up on the car?
Needless to say, I did not buy the car!

I'm thinking that is not the only reason you decided not to buy it. There must have been other concerns seen. It is a good looking car but when spending what I assume would be "lots" of money then the research has to be complete along with what people like to say "prominance". History is a big deal with collector cars.

Steve,
In point of fact, there were a lot of "other concerns." It turned out that the cost of the eyes & hands on inspection was some of the best money I ever spent on a car!
While the seats were still covered in form fitting plastic, preserving them, the bottom half of the car exterior had been repainted. Pictures of the underside of the doors showed what I felt to be unacceptable levels of rust.
The windshield and back window had been sealed with some sort of clear mastic that had literally been gobbed on, and which was also now stuck to the roof. I saw no easy and inexpensive way to remove it. In fact, what I saw was having to remove it, reseal the windows and repaint the roof. No thanks!
The dash and steering column had tons of chips in the paint. So many, that I did not feel they could be made to look acceptable using a rattle can.
The car burned oil.
Both the inspection and the report where quite thorough, and worth every cent I had to pay ($504, as I recall). Included with the written report were 145 photos to help me reach my own conclusion.
The logical question is, who did the inspection. It is no secret. I highly recommend the organization; http://www.automobileinspections.com/. I would not hesitate to call on them again, should the need arise.

When I hired this outfit, I knew next-to-nothing about them. I did what net investigation I could, and did talk with them on the phone before hire. Maybe it was just luck, but they sure came through for me!
I am sure my inspector was an independent contractor, not an employee. Be that as it may, he sure knew what to be looking for, and how to document all that was found.
I suppose the quality of inspection could vary, even within the organization, given the use of independent contractors, but I am here to sing their praises.
