My involvement with Fords may properly be characterized as slim, but not none.
I owned a '63 Ford Falcon Futura convertible, and a 1976 Ford Pinto. I will say, the Ford Pinto logged 185,000 miles on the odemeter before I passed her on to another owner!
To get there though, I did have to put in new floorboards! I do attribute her longevity, in part to the fact that I used a toilet paper oil filter element from day one.

I presume you are aware that Cougars are not becoming "hot property" on the collector car auction circuit? What with the demise of Mercury, they may even become more sought after?

I do not know a lot about Mercs, at all. I do remember the "lead sleds" and the 1953 - 1957 cars, but other than that, I am more than vague regarding the marque.
Mercs were similar to Olds, in terms of placement in the company line up; above the low priced cars (Ford), yet below the top of the line (Lincoln).
Part of the problem with all these manufacturers was that these cars were in fact the same, only sporting different trim packages.

I must admit, I have always like the lines of this vintage of birds. They are clean and simple.
The are also popular. Have you seen the rides that consist of your vintage bird on the rear-end and a 50's vintage shoe box Ford on the front? They are kind of interesting. They always cause a double take by viewers, trying to figure out what it is they are seeing.
