It's not a car but my 1992 Ford Ranger is having an anniversary on the 24th. 19 years of ownership. I've put on 6006 miles per year over 19 years. Just over 114,000 miles.
It needs 6 more years to be an antique. It still seems very modern to me though. It's had some repairs over the years but nothing unusual. The only "problem" was the low oil pressure at 56,000 miles. Apparently it was a common malady. Ford was so wise (sarcastic) to eliminate the oil pan gasket. It was installed at the factory with black silicon gasket maker gunk. It oozed in to the oil sump, broke off in pieces and began to clog the oil pickup in the pan. Other than that just normal maintenace. So far:
One rebuild of the air cond when the compressor siezed. I had to replace all the seals, compressor, dryer, meetering orifice, clean and service with 134a vice the original 12a coolant. Not too bad $300.
Two power steering pumps. The first was $120 and the second was free.
Two brake jobs. The first was $56 and the second was free.
Three sets of tires. Cooper Cobra GTs don't last. 19,000 miles and almost bald now. Not recommended at least not a truck used as a truck.
One paint job. $120. Cheap you say? Yup, painted with Rustoleum with a roller and brush. The downside is lots and lots of sanding required.
Before. interim and after pictures. Interim was a mistake. Rattle can job. Came off easy with sanding for the rolled on job. The factory paint started peeling at 2 years and was mostly gone by 17 years.
If the after be Rustoleum applied with a roller/brush, it looks more than pretty darn good?
Kind of hard to believe only 2 brake jobs in 114,000 miles. What is the secret to that?
May you, and all have an enjoyable Easter holiday. It means a long weekend for me, and any/all days not having to be spent working yield no complaints from me!

I don't know about the brakes. When I first changed them at 56,000 they still had almost 1/2 left. I just assumed that they should be bad. Not much stop and go driving I guess with living in a small town.
I thought after posting my original reply, above, that I could really mess with your mind by moving this thread to the "The Car Barn" area. Decided against it.

Then I would be confused. Especially after posting Corvairs in the Car Barn and then have you move them by accident. Yup you would have messed me up on that one.
Congrats! I am an Auto Restorer subscriber, so I shall be on the lookout for the article. It should make for interesting reading. You may have to guard that baby 24/7 after the article makes it into print!

Then you should re-look at the June 2010 magazine. My Cougar wagon was on page 30-31.
Henry Ford created a titan industry. Today we all are thankful him for our favorite cars. Hope GM will show innovations and be the first among auto concerns.
